Abstract:
This paper presents the dynamic modeling and control of the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). An optimal Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller is designed and Kalman gains are derived. Moreover, the power flow equations are modified to include the STATCOM power equations. The proposed model is tested on IEEE 5-bus and 14-bus power systems using Matlab.
