Abstract:
Our Final Year Project's theoretical section explains the foundation of the digital image correlation (DIC) method. The traditional method used for the deformation consist of either using an extensometer, a strain Gauge or a machine Crosshead Motion. Each one of these methods leads to a certain amount of error, they are usually expensive, and complicated processes are needed in order to generate the data needed. The DIC approach is a non-contact, non-interferometric optical technique for detecting the plane deformation of structural parts and samples of materials that can be suitable for fatigue and static testing. The implementation of the DIC approach using GOM correlate software is explained in the experimental section of the study in order to get strain results. The findings of testing on concrete beam samples are addressed. The results of the study showed that the DIC approach is a very promising technique and may replace the traditional method used to analyze the deformation in laboratory tests while considering their specificity.
