It has been observed that the waste management system is improved with the increase in awareness and education level. Unless the municipal waste management is made effective, the resource efficiency as well as environment protection will be at stake. Though there are some initiatives observed in these countries for waste management, a few initiatives have been in place to reduce the municipal waste generation. This study tries to find the strategies to reduce the municipal solid waste in Lebanon, Nigeria and India, taking into consideration the, consumption pattern, waste minimization, waste generation, waste management and recycling. In the developing countries the tradition of reuse and recycling exists which helps in increasing resource efficiency. This study will analyze how the waste generation can be minimized in these three countries and resource efficiency can be maximized. The information presented in the paper will definitely help the researchers and the governments of these three countries to reduce the waste generation and protect the environment. |
