Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a new MAC protocol for wireless personal area networks (WPAN) supporting multirate traffic. The protocol is based on a hybrid S-ALOHA and overlapped DS-CDMA (S-ALOHA/OV-DS-CDMA) access techniques. The main subject in this proposal is to exploit the potential of the overlapped CDMA multiple access system when jointly used with the S-ALOHA protocol in a link layer as an effective way of integrating multirate traffic. The proposed system is modeled using equilibrium point analysis (EPA) and jointly used with the IEEE 802.15.3 ultrawideband (UWB) channel model from which both the system throughput and the average packet delay are studied and simulated. Finally, results show clearly how much the performance of the network is influenced by the IEEE 802.15.3 WPAN channel status.
