Title: | The Free Church of Scotland in 19th-century Lebanon | Other Titles: | الكنيسة الاسكتلندية الحرة في لبنان في القرن التاسع عشر | Authors: | Marten, Michael | Keywords: | Church of Scotland 19th-Century Lebanon |
Issue Date: | 2002 | Publisher: | University of Balamand | Part of: | Chronos | Issue: | 5 | Start page: | 51 | End page: | 106 | Abstract: | In the 19th century, the main interest of the Scottish Presbyterian churches in the Levant related to Jewish missions. The only other major missionary effort by Scots in this region was the Free Church of Scotland's Shweir mission. This was smaller in scale and significance than the parallel missions to Jews and little has been written about it. Now, a hundred years after the Scots abandoned their mission in Shweir, it is worth looking at this mission again. |
