Abstract: 
During the French Protectorate in Tunisia (1881 -1956), the "Civil Controller" was the Resident-General’s representative in the regional administration. A Caїdal corps (a Caїd, a Kahia, a Khalifa, and a Sheikh), supervised by the Civil Controller of course, represented the Bey and his central government.
