Abstract

At the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, Europe was affected by political, social, and economic revolutions which eliminated the last features of the medieval ages, and prepared it for the emergence of a new active political, social, and economic way of life. Their internal features were nationalism, democracy, capitalism, and imperialism. These changes indirectly affected the Eastern part of Europe through the Napoleonic wars, and the Middle East through the French campaign in Egypt; this article covers the second point. It does not study the details and the results of the French campaign in Egypt, but how the Egyptian Muslim historian al-Jabarti related the history of this campaign.
