أزمة أبرشية بيروت للموارنة بين التجاذب الداخلي والصراع الدولي (1844-1847)

Abstract

Between 1844 and 1847, the Maronite Archdiocese of Beirut faced a crisis over the position between the two bishops Toubia Aoun and Nicolas Murad. The reasons of this crisis exceeded the administrative, social and religious issues, turning into a political issue manipulated by Paris, Istanbul, and Rome, in addition to the Maronite Patriarchate. The struggle in the Maronite community itself over this affair was subject to international tensions, especially between Rome and Paris. The first supported Bishop Murad while the second supported Bishop Aoun. This article aims to analyse the reasons behind this crisis, which were not only local but also western.
