Abstract:
Waste collection and allocation of bins are major aspects for solid waste management although it is not common to see in Lebanon. In this study, optimized routes and bin allocations were developed using ArcGIS Analyst to find best route and improve waste transportation and collection in Btouratij Village, Lebanon. A Geodatabase was created on GIS (Geographic information system) based on bins position and collection routes. The original route was integrated into GIS and through its parameters other scenarios were developed to find the most optimal one so we can decrease fuel consumption, duration, and most importantly pollution. The results showed us the most optimal scenario of collection route and most economical bin allocations. A direct impact on fuel consumption is shown knowing that Lebanon is suffering from economical and fuel crisis where through this we can help in improving economy and environment at the same time.
