Abstract:
Trichotillomania (TTM) is a psychological disorder that causes people to pluck their hair out. It is suggested that TTM affects not more than 4% of the population making it a rare disorder.
The “Trichotillomiriam” project is a YouTube channel that was created and launched in April 2021 to shed light on this rare disorder and tackle its different aspects through ten separate videos, fully created, produced and edited by the author. The channel’s target audience is mainly the people who suffer from TTM in the Arab world making it the first and only YouTube channel that delivers specific content to this community on this matter in Arabic. It targets their relatives and their respective communities as well by giving them answers to their concerns and helping them deal with the sensitivities of the issue.
This study examines the rationale behind the project’s execution, its pre-production, production and post-production phases, social media insights on its impact in addition to some recommendations and lessons learned.
