Authors: Siam, Mona

Subjects: Race--Political aspects--Germany
Political parties--Germany
Issue Date: 2019
Abstract:
In the last decade, Germany has faced many challenges. From the European Union (EU) economic crisis in 2009, to the Syrian civil war in 2011, we have seen an astounding rise in nationalism. This research will explore the factors that led to the surfacing of far-right political discourse in Germany. It will also examine whether the Syrian refugee crisis, was the main contributor to the shift in German identity politics or whether it was economic and/or other dynamics on the domestic and international level.
