Abstract:
Within the wide field of automotive industry, light weight components have become a key pillar in the body design and enhancement process, due to the major impact of weight on the fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. Therefore, decreasing the components weight is considered as one solution for aforementioned weight concerns; this can be achieved by implementing various processes and using different materials. While the primary concern in the automotive industry is to decrease fuel consumption and increase efficiency by reducing the weight of the materials used in the manufacturing process; this should be executed without putting the passengers safety at risk or increasing the production costs. This project has as a purpose to conduct a technical and economic comparison, between the various available processes/materials used in this regard, while bringing forth their respective advantages and disadvantages. In addition to improve the Bpillar part by adding an additional material reinforcement to increase the safety of the passengers by taking into consideration its weight.
