The KNX Home Automation system consists of a network where interconnected devices that use the KNX communication protocol provide solutions for residential houses. Lighting, Air Conditioning, Window and doors control, Appliances control and many more can be done through KNX automatically using a smartphone, tablet, a specific touch screen or standard push buttons. All the devices to be used in a KNX system are usually distributed by certified companies that implement solutions. The Network is usually programmed via specific software to make it easy to interconnect the whole system and make it work harmonically. The KNX communication protocol is a specific protocol only used by the KNX association, which makes it harder for any ordinary company to just make a KNX product. Furthermore, KNX products have higher prices than other home automation products that are distributed by other companies. What we desire to achieve in this project is to implement any solution that can be done via microcontroller and interconnect it to the KNX system and this is where we made use of the SIM-KNX device that is distributed by TAPKO. The goal is proving a concept that can be used later on in the implementation of any solution for low costs and even making your own KNX device.
