Title: | Earthquake design of a 5-storey hotel-residential building | Authors: | Abdallah, Majed Lababidi, Nazih Al |
Advisors: | Makhoul, Nisrine | Subjects: | Structural design--Case studies Earthquake resistant design |
Issue Date: | 2015 | Abstract: | The main goal of this project is to conduct a full design of a 5-storey hotel-residential building including two way solid slabs, intermediate earthquake resisting frames, shear walls and a mat foundation. Official data concerning the soil properties on the site were retrieved and used in design. These data are based on various tests conducted by a geotechnical engineer. These data in addition to the location of the structure were used to simulate the possible earthquake effects on the structure. Calculations based on ACI and ASCE recommendations were made on the whole structure to get the dead loads and live loads. The design is mostly done on ETABS 2013 for frames and shears walls and Safe 2012 for slabs and mat foundation. The report discusses the various advantages and few disadvantages for the usage of the latest design programs. Calculations, tables and sketches are used to illustrate the details and results of the design. |
