Issue Date: | 2024 | Publisher: | [Kalhat, Lebanon] : [University of Balamand], 2024 | Abstract: | Adolescents are exposed to many challenges during this period of development. With the rise of social media platforms and their increased use among late adolescents, concerns have been raised regarding their potential negative implications on mental health, particularly concerning body image and disordered eating. Utilizing a quantitative research approach, this study explores the correlation between increased social media use and binge eating behaviors among Lebanese late adolescents aged 18-21 through the use of scales like the SMES-A and the BES. The research findings reveal a significant positive correlation between increased levels and durations of social media use and the prevalence of binge eating behaviors within the target sample population. Underlining the potential need for proper awareness of social media’s effect on mental health and self-image and providing a better understanding of the topic. |
