Safeguarding our future: a comprehensive public health approach to antimicrobial stewardship at Hariri primary health care center-Nafela foundation medical center in Taanayel, Bekaa

Abstract

This project proposal endeavors to establish an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Hariri PHCC-Nafela Foundation Medical Center in Taanayel, Bekaa Governorate. The primary objective is to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance and address issues related to antibiotic misuse, overuse, and misconceptions. Engaging pharmacists, healthcare professionals, and the general public, the project seeks to promote responsible antibiotic use, enhance regulatory adherence, and ensure better access to healthcare services for all community segments. The ultimate goal is to safeguard public health, preserving the effectiveness of antimicrobial treatments in the community and Lebanon at large.Key tasks include a baseline needs assessment using a tailored CDC assessment tool, establishing an Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee to enhance leadership commitment, and developing a strategic plan based on public health perspectives. The project will improve antimicrobial use, provide continuous education for healthcare workers, and implement interventions for beneficiaries, including face-to face awareness sessions and distribution of educational materials. Continuous monitoring and evaluation using standardized indicators will be conducted at both facility and beneficiary levels. Additionally, a data tool for Antimicrobial Resistance will be created, enhancing existing tools for improved tracking and analysis. This proposal represents a holistic approach to address antimicrobial resistance, emphasizing community engagement, leadership commitment, and evidence-based practices, contributing to the long-term health and well-being of the community and Lebanon as a whole.
