Title: | Potential application of geopolymeric material in pond designs | Authors: | Saadeh, Ghina | Advisors: | Saba, Marianne | Keywords: | Hydrogeology, Alkaline activator, Geopolymer, Sustainability | Subjects: | Building materials Structural materials Engineering design--Case studies Dissertations, Academic University of Balamand--Dissertations |
Issue Date: | 2023 | Abstract: | This thesis explores how pond design might be transformed by incorporating geopolymer mortars. The study investigates the natural environmental friendliness of geopolymer mortars as an insulating material that is created by the interaction of an alkaline activator with aluminosilicate. The material's high compressive strength is highlighted as a feature that not only protects pond structures from external forces but also enables creative design. Empirical studies demonstrate that geopolymer mortars' greater compressive strength surpasses expectations, leading to a paradigm change in pond engineering. Although there were some small losses related to the modifications of the impermeable layer, they were surpassed by the overall improvements in the sustainability and durability of the structure. By highlighting the role that thoughtful material selection has in promoting environmentally conscious infrastructure, this study positions geopolymer mortars as enablers for resilient and ecologically conscious pond design. |
