Enhancing palliative caregiving : a mixed-methods investigation of educational interventions in Lebanon

Abstract

This paper presents the findings of a health promotion and education initiative for caregivers in hospice care, implemented through a partnership between an NGO called Sanad and a team of researchers. The project aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of caregivers in providing quality care for patients in hospice care by developing and disseminating visual, concise educational materials. The materials covered topics such as communication with patients and families, pain management, and end-of-life care. The results showed that the initiative had a positive impact on the knowledge and skills of caregivers, and it was well-received by both caregivers and patients. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research and implementation of similar initiatives in other healthcare settings.The educational materials developed for the project included a series of infographics and short videos, which were designed to be easily understandable and engaging for caregivers with varying levels of education and literacy. The materials were distributed to caregivers through both in-person training sessions and online platforms. The project also involved collecting feedback from caregivers and patients on the effectiveness of the materials and the overall initiative. This feedback was used to refine and improve the materials and training sessions over time. Overall, the project demonstrated the importance of providing accessible and targeted education to caregivers in hospice care, and the potential benefits of using visual and concise educational materials to improve care quality and patient outcomes.
