dc.description.abstract | Chemoprevention refers to the use of a pharmacological or dietary agent for the inhibition (primary prevention) or reversal (secondary prevention) of cancer development. With non-melanoma skin cancer incidence rising, there is a need for an effective and inexpensive chemopreventive strategy. This chapter covers the relevant chemoprevention agents for non-melanoma skin cancers available nowadays. Agents are listed per molecule and regrouped in main systemic agents, topical and field therapies, other agents, and future targets. Photoprotection could be considered as a chemoprevention strategy as well but is studied separately in this chapter. The last paragraph reviews the meaning of SPF, the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens, and the challenges to overcome for correct use. It does not address the environmental effects and controversies around the safety of some sunscreen components. | en_US |
