dc.description.abstract | The city of Aleppo is one of the oldest constantly-inhabited towns of the world (Fig. 1). According to archaeological findings in the city, human settlements have been found going back to the fifth millennium B.C.; the first mention of the city is in texts from the city of Ebla dating back to the third millennium B.C. Recent excavations have unearthed Aramaic buildings on the citadel hill, whose Ayyubid and Mameluke fortification complexes are Aleppo's most significant feature today. | en_US |
