Roads are not only elements connecting urban functions to each other, but they also play a significant role in the formation of cities and in determining the character of the urban texture. Occasionally, the changes in cities result in a reformation of road textures, as is the case in grid city planning made up of lots formed between streets intersecting at right angles and at regular intervals, or in Ottoman cities designed spontaneously. Both can be observed in Antakya's urbanization processes.en_US
