Abstract

The many studies talking about the wall of Damascus did not present any complete historical introduction adequate to the objectives of the archeological research. This study aims at highlighting the historical development of the wall through the Islamic historical stages, by navigating in the Arabic Islamic historical references without focusing on presenting a precise archeological description, but only mentioning what suits the content of the historical text. The real motive behind our reliance on these references and not on western European references is that most of them were done by people who were contemporary to what happened in the region in general and the city in particular, especially the developments, changes, and events.
