Hama is an Aramaic word that means “Castle” (Hosn in Arabic). Once you pronounce this word, you find yourself travelling back in time to ancient eras where you can’t leave without stopping by its religious archaeological remains. Your eyes thus enjoy its wild aspects and push you to write something about them even if you were neither a scholar nor a researcher. Hama is one of the important cities in Syria and it was not a subject to a deep and comprehensive study about its eras, especially the Christian one, though the numerous archaeological sites there. I was lucky when I wrote my Master’s thesis about the history of the cultural movement in the Diocese of Hama. During the phase of research and exploration to the numerous and varied materials that I worked on, I noticed that Hama needs hundreds of researchers specialized in History and Archaeology, in order to reveal the treasures of this great city, where the stones of its castle go back to between 9000 and 7000 B.C. I chose, among Hama treasures, the one of our Lady Church which charms everyone because of its ancient and pertinent fabrication. Dr. Georges Faeq Nahas had made an archaeological research entitled “Hama through History”, where he talked about this treasure and many other monuments in Hama. I will present and describe the pieces of this precious treasure in order to draw the attention of the specialists in archaeological and religious art and push them for a deeper study because it is a unique treasure and deserves to be given a big interest.en_US
