Building foundations are diverse and different. Each type of foundation has a specific role and behavior. This variety in foundations is due to the different parameters that are present in the construction site. Such as soil type, bearing capacity, water table and others. Also, the foundation holds the weight of the whole building and can be subjected to many dangers caused by the soil underneath such as settlement and how it affects the foundations. The purpose of this paper is to find the optimal foundation for a high-rise residential building. The results were gathered by designing shallow and deep foundations and by comparing the results. Our results showed that the different foundations have advantages and disadvantages. However, in some cases the disadvantages were negligible in front of the major advantages.en_US
