Issue Date: | 2021 | Abstract: | In Lebanon, the transportation sector is in a terrible situation. The country suffers from several problems like traffic jam, poor roadway conditions, accidents, pollution resulting from gas emission, etc. The main potential solution is to enhance the public transportation system that can be achieved by privatization in case the budget cannot be afforded by the state, which reflects on the usage of private cars. The practice of a well-studied bus transportation system helps in increasing the level of service of the roads and reducing the number of accidents and the gas emission. The purpose of this project is to define the level of service which outcomes from the execution of a public transportation system, by primary defining the level of service of the current condition of the main four-lane collector roadway between Bcharre and Aitou, along with a traffic light at the intersection of this road with a two-lane minor road linking Bcharre with the Cedars. The findings of the evaluation demonstrate that the level of service of the current roadway improves with the proposal of a bus transit system and the presence of a traffic light. |
