Abstract:
Sexual objectification is an existing problem prevalent in media platforms. Music videos are considered a source for this sexualization and objectification especially towards women. This research-oriented project aims to explore women’s objectification in Arab music videos. It offers a clear analysis of six Arab music videos for males and females’ artists. The analyzed music videos were released in the past three years, from 2017 till 2020. These music videos were visually analyzed through a comprehensive theoretical framework. Observations confirm that females’ objectification exists in Arab music videos. In addition, nine related subjects were tackled theoretically and visually through nine different videos. It is a fact that women are portrayed as weak and submissive characters who aim to please the male gaze. Hence, music videos play a prominent role in shaping audiences’ perceptions and views concerning women’s figure in societies. Analytical videos and articles for this project are posted online through a social website that presents a clear perspective on the objectification that Arab women are experiencing in the world of music videos. The analytical videos are also posted on social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
