Substance use and anxiety disorders have high comorbidity rates and that has raised a universal concern. Substance use prevention and its importance have been immensely studied, yet there are little precise recommendations for specific populations, like individuals with anxiety disorders. Risk and protective factors of substance use were studied in a sample of individuals (age 20-25) with high anxiety levels and substance use. The study is aimed at providing prevention recommendations to be used in clinics, schools, universities, and other relevant settings to reduce or prevent substance use for individuals with high anxiety. Moreover, the findings have been helpful in providing recommendations at several levels: family support, development of healthy coping mechanisms, interpersonal support, living environments, and self-control. The recommendations are addressed to parents, clinicians, and the vulnerable population with anxiety disorders.en_US
