Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to ascertain that Minerva, an Arabic Lebanese women magazine from the early 1920s played a role in supporting the Women Renaissance Movement in Lebanon. An analysis was conducted based on the content published in this magazine over a period of two years of its publication starting in 1923 and ending in1925. Observations, analysis and deductions were made based on the angle, approach and points view of how a topic was addressed in the magazine. The content was divided into two basic groups, editorials by Marie Yannî, the publisher and editor of Minerva, and the rest of the content. Classifications of articles were based on categories and subcategories that fit the general subject matter. It is suggested that Minerva supported the Women Renaissance Movement and the many causes it sponsored. Also, it suggested that while supporting the women movement, the magazine instigated a transition in the women journalism genre. The results suggest that the magazine impact on Women Renaissance Movement and the women journalism genre were evident to an extent.
