Cancer has become one of the most spread diseases worldwide. The types of cancer vary from country to another. Therefore, it has become a very concerning disease, and all efforts will be needed to face this problem. Till now, many of the patients undergoing chemotherapy receive platinum based drugs. The platinum based drug known as cisplatin is still one of the most effective anticancer drug especially in the treatment of testicular, ovarian, bladder and neck cancers. After its FDA approval, there has been a rapid expansion in finding a more effective metal-based complex with fewer side effects than those of cisplatin. For this, we aim on synthesizing a new platinum-based anticancer drug and undergoing biological testing at later stage. Methodology of designing tetradentate ligand 1,3-di(pyridine-2-imino)propane, its hydrogenated analog 1,3-di(pyridine-2amino)propane, and complexing the ligand with platinum(II) is presented in this thesis. The nonhydrogenated complex has been fully characterized using several methods, and further optimization is needed to get a better yield of the hydrogenated ligand then complexing it with platinum.en_US
