Crude oil not only provides energy for the transportation sector, but also is essential for many chemical, industrial and pharmaceutical production processes. Atmospheric distillation of crude oil produces valuable petroleum products. The objectives of studying Light Syrian crude on which atmospheric distillation was applied are to determine its physical and chemical properties and to determine the diameter of an industrial scale atmospheric distillation tower. The results showed that light Syrian crude oil has a Mean average boiling point = 265⁰C, Watson characterization factor = 11.741, molecular weight = 206, and its content of paraffins (65%), naphthenes (26%) and aromatics (9%). Also, a heat balance was performed in order to which was found to be 19.85 ft and linear velocity is 3.18 ft/s.en_US
