dc.description.abstract | As a growing University, the UOB will be requiring more electrical energy in the near future. Based on this fact, a study was carried out regarding the possibility of installing alternative energy systems. Wind and solar energy are the most common types; therefore the study will focus on them. Starting from an elementary level of knowledge regarding renewable energy generation, the study was developed based on research of available photovoltaic (PV) and wind system materials. This study is to be presented to the University of Balamand Grounds and Buildings department to assist them in their understanding of such systems and to provide them with workable sizing models. First, a technical overview of the two sources of alternative energy, solar and wind will be carried out and each systems validity will be checked with the UOB geographical conditions. Next, the future power requirements will be estimated based on current EDL and generator consumptions and on UOBs 10-year Master Plan. Finally, a sizing model will be developed, which can be used for future planning. | en_US |
