dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this project is to study the mechanical building systems covering needs, safety and comfort through drainage and water system design, firefighting, heating ventilation and air-conditioning for Salem house, the Presidents house located inside the University of Balamand main campus. This project is a combination of the theoretical side, i.e. calculation and floor plans drawings along with the practical side, i.e. material selection related to each system. The design is made accurately, with theoretical and numerical calculations, based on the following sources: - ASPE: The American Society of Plumbing Engineers; - ASHRAE: The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. - NFPA: The National Fire Protection Association The findings of the study made are as follows: Cold Water System: - Net roof water tank capacity: 5,000 Liters; - Net basement water tank capacity: 15,000 Liters; - House Pump: Flow = 7.3381 GPM; Head = 14.44 m; - Booster set: Flow per pump = 18.75 GPM; Head of each pump = 12.3 m. Hot Water System: - Total storage capacity: 300 Liters, divided into 2 tanks of 150 Liters each; - Power input per tank = 21 KW; - Time required to heat each tank = 28 mins. Fire Fighting System: - Pro 5 MP Fire Extinguisher: in the kitchen, at the entrance and the exit of the stairs, in the storage areas, in the parking spaces, and on the roof; - Electrical Fire Extinguisher: in the electrical room. Sanitary Drainage System: - Total dfu of the house = 64. Cooling System: - Total cooling load of the house = 75.15 KW; - Total cooling load of the air-conditioners selected = 81.65 KW; - Total number of air-conditioners: 11 indoor and 11 outdoor units. Heating System: - Total heating load of the house = 48.79 KW; - Total heating load of the elements = 48.79 KW; - Total number of elements = 369.en_US
