Abstract:
The aim of this project is to satisfy the costumers demand of designing an efficient Quad-Copter capable of carrying a certain payload of a specified weight. This QuadCopter will be more durable and sustainable than the conventional designs. A wind turbine will be placed to charge the batteries, instead of using the electric connection. The goals to be met are, lightweight, simple fabrication, easy maintenance, as well as keeping cost low. A limited speed reached by the wind turbine is 105rpm. To produce 12 volts the generator must reach 3000rpm. To translate the speed of wind turbine to the required generator speed a ratio for a gearbox is developed. The charge and discharge rates were calculated and compared concluding that charging while grounded before flight is effective. After running simulations, finite element analysis results ensured the durability under stress. Frequency analysis results revealed the natural frequencies of the structure as well as its resistance to the frequency generated by the motor, which is 157Hz. CFD flow analysis indicated low drag on the body and turbine signifying low ambient forces produced under high winds on the system.
