The purpose of this study is to give information about the process of building an automatic splicing unit. This unit is placed at the beginning of the production line in a manufacturing process, giving more time saving and more efficiency. The automatic splicing unit is used in unwinding systems, it allows the transfer from the old roll to the new roll in a continuous running machine which allows a Continuous production process without stoppage . This unit will paste the running web from the old roll to the steady web from the new roll and will cut the running web from the old roll. The cut will be done by a knife, Two driven rollers covered by rubber will drive & paste the running web from the old roll to the new one, after placing a double sided preglued tape on the web. The cut occurs almost at the same time with paste. Calculations are made to choose the good machine components, including calculations to select bearings, pneumatic piston, pulleys, screws, belts, metal type and electric motor. The selected motor was chosen from Siemens catalogue, it has a 1.1KW rated power running at a rated speed of 1415rpm which allows the outer shafts covered with rubber to run at a desired speed of 800rpm. At the end of the calculations a cost analysis is made to see approximately how much this unit costs and the cost is approximately {dollar}3,268.en_US
