Abstract:
Smart cities are the future of traditional cities. A smart city gives the authorities the ability to manage and observe the consumption of natural resources, electric power, traffics and others. This is because, in big cities with a high population, every single detail related to consumption detail will make a big difference. Thus the idea of the home energy management system. A home energy management system is a system that can do bidirectional communication with authorities. So with this system, the authorities can guarantee that people or homes will involve in its strategy of managing and reducing consumptions. This system alerts users when their consumption is not compatible with the main strategy of the city. In addition, a home energy management system can manage the energy coming from different sources (grid, renewable PV system and backup generator), allows the users to set a schedule for their households to reduce the consumption in peak hours and allows the users to monitor all information related to their energy consumption A human-machine interface (HMI), a PLC and an Arduino are used in this project to complete this system.
