dc.description.abstractThis project presents information regarding the "Powerline Carrier (PLC) Communication Systems" with an analysis on the standards, characteristics, technologies, products and development linked and currently being used in the PLC communication systems. The essential initiative behind this research is based on the lack of information gathering due to the fact that researches on this topic are recent. The advantages of using power line as the medium of data transmission at home is discussed. Multiple standards and laws are looked in. The technologies covering the power line communications are exhibited along with a discussion on the functionality of each technology including the data transmission rates, limitations, setbacks, quality of service and other significant factors. A market survey of the currently available products modules in the power line networking area is also executed, summing up all the Home plug – certified products available in the power line industry for the Lebanese 220V 60Hz power circuits. The thesis deduces a look at the current technological advances in the area in addition to suggestions for possible research likelihood. With the current transmission speeds of 14 Mbps and a noteworthy increase promised in the upcoming future, Power line Carrier Communication Systems are a favored choice over Wireless or other Home Networking technologies because of aspects such as the ease of installations, availability of AC outlets, higher throughput, minor cost, reliability and security. PLC communication Systems can also deliver xDSL and Broadband Internet along with electricity to the clients by the energy utilities.en_US
