Abstract:
The purpose of this project is to build a GIS platform in aim to translate and manage an infrastructure project. Using the new system called "Geographic Information System", this will offer a better design, analysis, display, manipulation and editing of all type of geographic data. This report will start with an introduction about "MapInfo": the software used in this project, so the readers could discover through different procedures the program, its techniques, technologies and processes. The data base is collected and analyzed for a chosen city. The report shows and explains each step taken for the successful completion of this project, explores its vast domains, and the ways of how to project different elements, create and cross data with topographical information. In order to better understand how a GIS Program works, a new tool is developed using the Visual Basic via Microsoft Excel Interface. The algorithm of the new tool will be able to calculate the slope from an elevation GIS Raster. The report shows how we were able to build all the necessary details for an infrastructure project, only with the use of the provided data: the IGN, the orthophoto map and four points. An example was presented, showing the average slope and elevation in certain specified areas. This will eventually give an idea on the terrain aspect and the volume of cut and fill. This report will also contain a set of different maps created using linked database. Different reports will be extracted too, and the developed platform will be able to receive and treat the evolution of the project data in aim of better management.
