Subjects: Shear walls
Issue Date: 2013
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to analyze a class of shear wall buildings. The analysis will be done by converting each shear wall system into an equivalent cantilever beam. The equivalent cantilever will be subjected to point loads at various floor levels equivalent to floor masses. Selected results will be compared to those obtained by ETABS based on shell element based models. This report introduces the concept of shear walls, describes the formulation of a model, provides guidelines on how the related software is developed (listing of the software is in the appendix) and does a significant number of parametric studies with a focus on non-aligned shear walls.
