Abstract:
The project purpose is to accomplish a full design of the Dekwaneh municipality building. This building consists of 3 basements and 8 stories including solid slabs, frames, shear walls, two roofs and a mat foundation. The main challenge was the various types of irregularities. In other words, to design a building with special architectural plans and such importance in a manner to resist earthquake, was not an easy job. This project was a challenge. This project was full of benefits since all the skills and knowledge acquired at the university were applied, new subjects were learned, and the engineering judgment was improved. The major softwares used are ETABS, SAFE, and AUTOCAD. The data used for soil properties was a result of many tests done by the geotechnical engineer. This data and the location of the structure were used to simulate the possible earthquake effects on the structure. UBC97, ACI-318M-05, and ASCE-07 were used to accomplish the building design. UBC97 code is used in order to apply the earthquake load combinations to the building; the ACI-318M-08 is used for design of all Reinforced Concrete sections mainly shear walls, slabs, beams and columns. Finally the ASCE-07 code is used to estimate the dead and live loads to be applied. AUTOCAD software has been used to understand the architectural plans and the complicated shape of the building. In other words to perform the model correctly and to understand the location of structural elements (beams, walls and slab) floor by floor. On the other hand, ETABS has been used to design structural elements (Beams, Shear walls), and finally SAFE to design the mat foundation. Full analysis, calculations, software results, sketches and formulas are shown to provide a comprehensive report.
