Abstract:
This report is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Civil Engineering as per norms of Balamand University. This paper reports on tests used to study the effect of using recycled crumb rubber as an alternate fine aggregate in concrete mixes. Natural sand was partially replaced by 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% of rubber in concrete cylinders of 15, 20MPa strength. Mechanical properties like density, compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture and absorption were studied. The results showed a decrease in the compressive strength of concrete cylinders containing rubber, acceptable density values. Also the addition of crumb rubber influenced the modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture negatively.
