Title: | Effect of crushed glass in concrete as a substitute for fine aggregates | Authors: | Arab, Fouad Shammas, Stephanie Mansour, Tina |

Issue Date: | 2014 | Abstract: | Many researchers, such as Meyer, C., Turgut, P. and others, have been trying to replace a percentage of fine aggregates with crushed glass. The objective is to reduce the environmental impact of concrete, conserve natural resources and introduce an interesting possibility for economy on waste disposal sites (such as landfills). This study is to correlate the compressive strength (fc) of concrete to the variation of percentage of crushed glass. The parameters studied are the modulus of rupture (MOR)for a non-reinforced test beam, the modulus of elasticity (Ec) as well as the deflection of the beam. The ASTM standards were adopted. This paper examines the possibility of using crushed glass as a replacement of fine aggregates in concrete mixes. Natural sand was partially replaced (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%) by crushed glass. Compressive strength, Tensile strength (beams and cylinders) and Flexural strength up to 90 days of age were compared with those of concrete made with natural fine aggregates. |
