The prevalence of obesity and overweight is increasing worldwide (1–3). In Lebanon, Sibai et al (3) have found that the prevalence of overweight and obesity in adult women (aged 20 yr and older) was 49.4% and 14.3%, respectively. Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (1–3). However, there is some evidence to suggest that obesity and overweight are associated with higher bone mineral density (BMD) values and lower incidence of fractures especially at the hip (4,5).en_US
