Biography
Dr. Jabali joined the University of Balamand in 2011 as a Laboratory supervisor at the Water Quality Laboratory which was entitled later the Environmental Engineering Laboratory (EEL). She served in this position until September 2019.

As a graduate in Biochemistry from the Lebanese University in 2008, Dr. Jabali continued her postgraduate studies and obtained an MSc in Chemistry in the field of food quality and analysis at the Lebanese University in 2010. She received her PhD. in Analytical chemistry/ chemistry of the environment in 2017 from the University of Strasbourg (ED222, Strasbourg, France). Her PhD thesis was conducted with a joint convention between the University of Strasbourg and the University of Balamand in Lebanon. In her research, she developed, optimized, and validated two GC-MS/MS methodologies for the analysis of various pesticides and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) in water. Subsequently, both methodologies were used for the evaluation of the contamination of water by both classes of contaminants.

Dr. Jabali has evolved from being a Laboratory supervisor (2011) to Researcher (2018), and to Senior Lecturer (2020). Her work as a laboratory supervisor allowed her to interact and assist many BS and MS students. In this context, she was involved in many projects of different topics, which allowed her to deepen her knowledge in different fields. Moreover, she was elected in August 2015 as a quality coordinator for the implementation of ISO 9001 system for civil and environmental engineering laboratories. Her work as a quality coordinator helped her improve her preparation and organization skills.

Dr. Jabali has given several invited/plenary talks at international conferences. Her research interests cover several aspects across the emerging pollutants, organic contaminants in water, development of analytical methods for the analysis of persistent organic pollutants (POPs); water and wastewater treatment and analysis, Life cycle assessment, solid waste management, and air pollution assessment, analysis and chemical characterization. Furthermore, she supervised various MS research projects in various fields mainly water quality analysis and treatment, air quality and solid waste management.

Dr. Jabali teaches several courses in environmental engineering modelling, environmental sampling and analysis and principles of environmental engineering in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Jabali was qualified as a certified internal auditor, trained by QMS Foundation, in 2015 ((Based on ISO 9001:2008 Standard -Courses No. A17177 and Course No. A17176 certified by the International Register of certificated Auditors (IRCA).

Dr. Jabali received the First Prize for best “Environmental Friendly project” at the 11th Annual Conference for Engineering and Architecture Graduates in North Lebanon" in June 2019 and the First Prize for the Innovative Entrepreneurial Idea in the Environmental and Energy sector in Lebanon in March 2020 . She is a Member of the "Faculty Orientation" and "Project and Research" Committee at the University of Balamand. Moreover, she is a member of the International Water Association (IWA) (2018), Core member of the national water thematic group (2019), member of the Lebanese Youth Parliament for Water (LYPW) (2018), and a Core Member of the Academic Experts Support Group that was created to support the Ministry of Environment (MoE) (2019) to establish a long-term collaboration with academic experts in the waste management sector.

Dr. Jabali heads large research activities in water quality analysis, environmental life cycle assessment, development of analytical techniques, and air quality analysis. A particular research strength is emerging pollutants analysis using the inductively couples plasma (ICP/MS) and Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometer. Recent research highlights includes projects of different sectors such as:
(a) Water Pollution: Assessment, monitoring and Solutions
(b) projects in the Solid Waste Management sector: Environmental Life cycle assessment
(c) projects in the Air Quality sector: Chemical characterization and source identification of PM2.5.

She is working with national and international partners such as NGOs (Solidarities International, UNICEF and Concern Worldwide) and Urban Community Al Fahaa (UCF).

In 2019, Dr. Jabali received the Lebanese Industrial Research Grant for the project untitled: “Photo-catalytic cement for green construction”. Consequently, she developed a functional prototype for a photo-catalytic reactor used for the analysis of NOx degradation using a previously developed and optimized photo-catalytic cement material.
