Elie Honein is a professor of mechanical engineering at University of Balamand, Lebanon, since 1999. His main area of research is in solid mechanics with emphasis on micromechanics, composite materials, and thermodynamic modeling of damage in solids. Also, he has been working on wave propagation in elastic solids and solid/fluid interaction.

He earned his Ph.D. (1991) and M.S. (1989), both in Mechanical Engineering, from Stanford University, and a BE degree (1985), also in Mechanical Engineering, from the Lebanese University.

Before joining University of Balamand, he was an engineering research associate at Stanford University and he consulted to several high tech and other industries, mainly in the Bay Area. Among them are: General Science and Technology, Exclusive Design Company, and Terastor Corporation. Also, he worked for Daimler-Chrysler, Auburn Hills, MI, on On-Board Misfire Detection System. At Balamand, he worked on many projects; some of them were funded by European agencies such as TEMPUS and EranetMed. He is a member of ASME and was a member of several professional societies, among them, AIAA, and ASC.
