Biography
Antoine Abche received the BS Degree and MS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toledo (USA) in 1984 and 1986, respectively. He received the PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers the State University (USA) in 1996.

Having worked at the Company TECOSE Inc. for about nine years as a resident consultant under contract at the Con Edison Power Control center (New York), he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering (University of Balamand) as an assistant professor in Fall 1997.

For example, during that period Dr. Abche worked as a: Development Specialist on the Data Link Front End Computer (DLFEC) project for Con Edison use at the Power Control Center, Development Specialist under contract to develop an Expert System based System Alarm advisor for Inference Corporation, Development Specialist under contract to develop an Open Access Database Translator for Control Data Corporation, Development Specialist under contract as part of a team to develop an EPRI Based dispatcher’s training simulator, Control Center Model for Siemens Corporation, a Maintenance consultant under contract to provide system level trouble shooting of an EPRI based Dispatcher’s Training Simulator (DTS) for Siemens/Empros.
Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Balamand. During his presence at the University of Balamand, Dr. Abche was, but not limited to:
Coordinator of the Filière “Regulation and Robotics” that was launched in the framework of cooperation between the University of Balamand, the Agency of Francophone Universities (AUF) and three Francophone Universities in France and Belgium
Member of the University senate for two terms
Coordinator of couple summer universities which were organized at the University of Balamand
Assistant to the Vice president for European projects (for couple years until Nov 2018)
Coordinator (for couple years) of the Erasmus + International Credit Mobility programs with various European Universities (until Nov 2018)
Coordinator of an Erasmus Mundus project entitled HERMES (“to develop scientific mobility/exchanges of students at all levels and staff between the Higher Education institutions of Europe and the Higher Education institutions of the Middle East”) which started in 2013 for a period of four years and consists of a consortium of twenty universities from Europe (France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Cyprus) and the South Mediterranean Region
Member of the team that worked on the ABET accreditation of the Electrical Engineering BS program
Coordinator of the Capacity Building for Higher Education project which ended in Fall 2019 (entitled “EU project design and management unit installation in the South Mediterranean region”) in which sixteen universities and organizations from seven countries (France, Lebanon, Croatia, Italy, Jordan, Libya, Spain) have participated with other associated partners etc.…

Since his appointment in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Balamand, as an assistant professor (Fall 1997) and over the span of his years at the University, Professor Antoine Abche has played a key role in the development of the Electrical Engineering programs and their improvement over the years.

He was very active in the process of ABET accreditation of the Electrical BS program. He has supervised several Master projects and theses as well as co-supervised several PhDs in the framework of cooperation with European Universities.
